Problem- Sodium iodine is used to reduce radiation exposure while physicians evaluate thyroid function, and sometimes is used in treating malignancies that are found in the thyroid. Because this is a radioactive treatment, care must be taken to minimize excessive Iodine Cap Makerradiation exposure to the patient. But in the manufacture of capsules, extreme care must also be taken to ensure minimum radiation exposure to the technologists preparing the capsule. VulcanGMS was asked to help design a system that provided adequate shielding for the technologist making the capsules, but also allowed faster and more precise dosage amount.

Solution- Vulcan’s turnkey solution was to design an integrated electrical and mechanical system that was more flexible, provided greater ease of use and far superior shielding than current methods.

Results- This potentially increases the market size for the radiopharmaceutical industry, but more importantly gives higher worker satisfaction because the ease of use of the equipment and the validated exposure reduction.
