Vulcan GMS has been systematically applying Lean Manufacturing methods for more than five years through a series of initiatives. Over the last 5 years, on-time delivery has risen from a level of 81% in 2005 to 97% in 2010. Employee productivity, measured as sales per employee, has risen significantly during the last three years. During the same 3-year period, Vulcan reduced inventory 52%. Achieving results such as these has intensified the company’s commitment to continuous improvement guided by lean methods.
