X-Ray Tube Housings

X-ray tubes are much like light bulbs in that the bulb needs to be placed into a housing to hold the X-ray source. This housing provides radiation shielding and structural support as well as a means of containing the cooling oil used in the assembly.

This housing is what Vulcan GMS produces for many of the industry leading companies in the world. There two basic styles of X-ray housings used in any of the market segments: fabricated housings and cast housings. These two styles are used in three basic markets.

In addition to traditional designs of X-ray tube housings, Vulcan also offers other solutions for shielding with materials such as tungsten or high-density plastics to find the best solution for your needs.

Medical X-Ray Tube Housings

These medical X-ray housings are used in a few applications and vary based on two basic tube types: rotating anode or stationary anode applications. X-ray power ranges from 200Kv down to 35kV.

Rotating anode applications are typically used for CT systems or X-ray systems while stationary anode type tubes would be used in dental and bone density type applications. These X-ray tubes can be made from fabrications, cast aluminum or steel casings.

Vulcan GMS produces all styles of these X-ray tubes for OEMs; either to their specification or designed to meet their needs. Vulcan can handle all aspects of the manufacturing of these X-ray tube housings which would typically include casting or fabricating of the casing in aluminum or steel, machining, impregnation, helium leak checking, lead fabricating and lead assembly, paint or powder coating.

Vulcan GMS has been building medical X-ray housings for industry leading OEMs X-ray tube manufacturers for more than 25 years. With our vast knowledge and experience, we are capable of helping you with your needs.

Industrial & NDT X-Ray Housings

These industrial and NDT X-ray tubes can be either stationary or rotating anode X-ray sources. Their sources range from lower power settings from around 50kV up to 450kV. There are also some industrial settings where accelerators are used to go much higher; up to 10Mev. Vulcan produces X-ray tanks, housings, tube shields, collimators and other related products used in these types of X-ray tubes.

Much like the medical X-ray tube housings, Vulcan can handle all aspects of the manufacturing of these X-ray tube housings which would typically include casting or fabricating of the casing in aluminum or steel, machining, impregnation, helium leak checking, lead fabricating and lead assembly, paint or powder coating. Many of these applications use extruded or fabricated lead tubes for the shielding needs and Vulcan can produce and machine these materials for any such applications.
